Ondo Attack: Reverend Father Narrates How The Incident Happened And Claimed Scores Of Lives

 It was a black Sunday in Owo, Ondo State. An ancient town fondly regarded as one of the most peaceful and serene city of the sunshine state woke up into a bloody day with a blister of sadness that permeated its atmosphere.

Not less than 30 worshippers were gunned down in a bloody attack believed to have been carried out by yet to be identified gunmen on Sunday during the Catholic mass.

The attack which happened at St Francis Catholic Church, Owaluwa Street, Owo has left many families and the entire kingdom in a sackloth of sorrow, sadness and sobber mood.

Narrating how it all happened, the resident priest, Reverend Father Andrew Abayomi explained that the terrorists struck when the service was about to end.

Speaking to BBC Yoruba after the incident, the clergyman noted that the moment they heard the sound of gunshots, they closed the Church doors and he, together with other priest and some worshippers hid inside the Church.

But unfortunately, some of the members have already gone. While some were killed within the church premises, others were gunned down at the entrance of the church.

The attack was said to be well calculated by the hoodlums. About thirty eight corpses were counted immediately after the attack with several people injured and rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo.

According to the state governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, the attack was vile and satanic. Akeredolu while reacting to the ugly situation said he had to cut short his National assignment to attend to the situation.

The governor who described the situation as a personal loss to him however promised to hunt down the assailants.
