One of the pacesetters of Modern Hip Hop Music in Nigeria, Lanre Fasasi best known as Sound Sultan has passed on. According to reports, he died after a hard fought battle with Angioimmunoblastic T-cell Lymphoma. The condition is a rare form of non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, a group of related malignancies (cancers) which affects the lymphatic system.

Sound Sultan was a rapper, singer, songwriter, actor, comedian and recording artist. He was one of the Artistes who dominated the music industry back in the late 90’s and early 2000s. He was signed to Kennis Music Label (1997-2008) and Naija Ninjas (2008-2021).
Sound Sultan has released so many hit songs in the course of his career but his first single was ‘Jagbajantis’ in the year, 2000. He worked with music legends like 2Face Idibia, Faze, Wyclef Jean amongst others in the early 2000s. Sound Sultan was later made a United Nation Ambassador for peace in 2012 because of his exemplary lifestyle and career.
He got married to his long-term girlfriend Chichi Morah, now addressed as Farida Fasasi in the year 2009 and their relationship was blessed with three children namely; Mayowa Fasasi, Zara Fasasi and Bidemi Fasasi.
Sound Sultan was a family man and he always expressed how much he loved his family on his social media pages. He used to post pictures of his wife and children on instagram and professed his love for them.

The death of Sound Sultan has put many people in mourning. Different celebrities have taken to their social media pages to express how sad they are over the death of South Sultan. Veteran Actress, Funke Akindele notes that the death of Sound Sultan hurts her a lot. She said it is too painful and heartbreaking. The Actress prayed for the beautiful wife and kids that he left behind.
Many other celebrities have paid their tributes to the Legendary Singer. Some of the celebrities who have mourned Sound Sultan are Chioma Akpotha, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Yomi Fabiyi, Iyabo Ojo, Bob Risky, Peter Psquare, Yvonne Jegede, Kate Henshaw, Genevive Nnaji and lots more. May his soul rest in perfect peace.
The legendary singer was laid to rest in ‘Marlboro Muslim Cemetery in New Jersey, U.S.A’ according to the Islamic rites this evening. It was indicated on the obituary that the burial would be attended by Family members only but may be streamed on ‘ZOOM Meeting’. However, an emotional moment when the wife of the deceased, Farida Fasasi laid on the coffin has surfaced the internet.

In the short video, the bereaved could be seen wailing as she lies on the coffin of her husband before he was laid to rest. The deceased was survived by wife and children. May God give the bereaved family the fortitude to bear the loss.
